Manhattan Fire Protection District responds to brush fire

(April 13, 2023) Manhattan, IL - At approximately 12:38 PM, the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) was dispatched to a reported brush fire in the middle of a field located on the eastbound side of Route 52 between Baker and Delaney Road. The first units arrived on the scene within six minutes of the initial call for service.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported a fire spanning across one acre of farm field about a half mile between Baker and Delaney Road. The crews were able to quickly establish a water supply and fire control. The fire was contained within 20 minutes of its first arrival.

No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.

Multiple agencies were on the scene and at the Manhattan Fire Stations to cover any additional calls for service during that time. These include Frankfort Fire Protection District, East Joliet Fire Protection District, Mokena Fire Protection District, and University Park Fire Protection District.
