Manhattan Fire Protection District Responds to Residential Structure Fire

(January 25, 2022) Manhattan, IL - At approximately 12:23 PM, the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) responded to a reported structure fire in a two-story residential building on South Cherry Hill Road in Manhattan. Fire crews who were dispatched to the scene arrived within five minutes of receiving the call for service.

When the crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke was coming from the roof and second floor of a two-story home. Firefighters entered the building and found heavy smoke and fire in the attic. The crews were able to establish a rural water supply, fire control, and overhaul to the structure. The fire was contained to the room of origin and was extinguished within thirty minutes of the first arrival.

The occupant of the home was able to exit the residence safely with the assistants from the first responding unit. No injuries were reported to the resident or the fire companies.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Multiple agencies were on the scene and at the Manhattan Fire Station to cover any additional calls for service during that time. These include New Lenox Fire Protection District, East Joliet Fire Protection District, Lockport Fire Protection District, Homer Fire Protection District, Orland Fire Protection District, Manteno Fire Protection District, Monee Fire Protection District, Wilmington Fire Protection District, Channahon Fire Protection District, and Coal City Fire Protection District.
