Manhattan Fire Protection District Responds to Car vs. Building on South State Street

(February 1, 2021) Manhattan, IL - At approximately 1:54 PM the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) received a call for a reported accident with injuries at the intersection of State St. and North St., Manhattan Fire Protection District area.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a single vehicle crashed into a two-story half residential, half commercial building. The incident was immediately upgraded to a MABAS 19 Technical Rescue Full Still. The building was then evacuated. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and refused medical treatment. No other injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The building has been deemed safe.

At this time the cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated by the Manhattan Police Department.

The Manhattan Fire Protection was assisted by numerous fire agencies on the scene and provided station coverage.
