Manhattan Fire Protection District Responds to Residential Structure Fire on Bruns Road |

(April 19, 2023) Manhattan, IL - At approximately 12:58 PM, the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) was dispatched to a reported fully engulfed attached garage located on the 13200 block of West Burns Road in Manhattan. The first units arrived on the scene within six minutes of the initial call for service. Fire crews reported moderate smoke and flames showing from a fully engulfed attached garage of a large-sized two-story residential structure. The fire from the lawn mower inside the garage communicated to the attic of the attached garage. A full still was activated for additional personnel and equipment. Firefighters quickly established a water supply and immediately began fire attack on the garage within five minutes. The fire was controlled before reaching the house. A general alarm was called for additional Manhattan FPD personnel to respond to the scene and MFPD Station 81. Comed was also notified. The fire was contained and extinguished in twenty-one minutes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by MABAS 19 Investigators. Multiple agencies were on the scene and at the Manhattan Fire Stations to cover any additional calls for service during that time. These include Beecher Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, New Lenox Fire Protection District, Elwood Fire Protection District, Orland Fire Protection District, Homer Township Fire Protection District, Beecher Fire Protection District, Manteno Fire Protection District, Matteson Fire Protection, Mokena Fire Protection District, and University Park Fire Protection District. |
