Manhattan Fire Protection District responds to a double fatal auto accident

(March 19, 2023) Peotone, IL- At approximately 8:20 am, the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) was dispatched to a reported auto accident at Rt 45 and Peotone Wilmington Rd intersection.

Upon arrival, fire crews found three vehicles with heavy damage. One of the vehicles was on fire and fully involved. A full still alarm was called for additional resources. Two patients were transported to local hospitals, and two others succumbed to their injuries on scene. Will County Sheriffs and Illinois State Police responded and closed the intersection for accident reconstruction. The intersection is expected to be closed for several hours and is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene and the Manhattan Fire Stations to provide coverage for any additional calls for service during that time. These in clued Monee, Beecher, University Park, New Lenox, East Joliet, Manteno, and Frankfort. Will County EMA and Manhattan EMA both assisted in traffic control.
