Manhattan, IL - At approximately 8:21 AM, the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 13000 block of West Memorial Drive in Manhattan. The first units arrived on the scene within six minutes of the initial call for service.
Fire crews reported moderate smoke showing from a medium-sized two-story residential house under new construction. Firefighters entered the building and found a working fire on the first floor extending to the second floor. A full still was activated for additional personnel and equipment. The crews were able to quickly establish a water supply, fire control, and overhaul the structure. The fire was contained and extinguished within ten minutes of first arrival.
All construction workers were able to safely evacuate the building prior to the fire companies’ arrival. No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Multiple agencies were on the scene and at the Manhattan Fire Station to cover any additional calls for service during that time. These include New Lenox Fire Protection District, East Joliet Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, Peotone Fire Protection District, Mokena Fire Protection District, Elwood Fire Protection District, Lockport Fire Protection District, Manteno Fire Protection, and Coal City Fire Protection District. -###- |
