Mission Statement

The Primary Mission of the
Manhattan Fire Protection District is to respond to our customer needs providing Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Service, Fire Prevention & Education and other Specialized services in a Safe, effective manner.



 

The Apparatus of the Month above is Engine 1212. This engine is a 2006 Pierce Enforcer with a 1250gpm pump and 750 gallons of water. It is equiped with hydraulic rescue tools, power saw, gas powered fan, portable lights, hydraulic generator, pre-piped deck gun, and AED with Basic Life Support EMS supplies. Engine 1212 is the first out engine at Station One.

LIFESTAR Visits Manhattan

The crew from the Joliet based LIFESTAR medical helicopter visited Manhattan Fire Department. The visit included a tour of the helicopter and Landing Zone training for Manhattan Firefighters. LIFESTAR moved Joliet earlier this year when it was purchased by parent company Air Methods. LIFESTAR is one of the primary helicopters used by Manhattan for emergency transportation. This helicopter can be in the Manhattn area in a little has five minutes after take off. Manhattn Fire Department would like to thank the crew from LIFESTAR for comming out and conducting this important training.

Todd Burke Memorial Scholarship

 Through the generosity of Firefighter/Paramedic Todd Burke’s family, the Manhattan Firefighters Association is proud to award the Todd Burke Memorial Scholarship. Todd Burke exemplified the qualities and commitment necessary to impact the future of emergency care. We want to help other promising young adults gain an education and impact the future as Todd did.

 One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a resident of the Manhattan Fire Protection District pursuing a degree in the Fire Science or Medical field at an accredited college.

 Applications and essays will be reviewed by a committee consisting of members of the Manhattan Firefighters Association.

 Students wishing to apply need to complete the following application and mail it to:
