About Our Chief
Growing up on
a farm in Wilton Township, Jack had big
dreams of becoming a fire chief one day.
That dream came true in August 1998. When
the retirement of former chief Dale
Vanderboegh became imminent, there was no
question who the next chief officer would
be.
Jack has lived in Manhattan area all of his
life and signed on as a volunteer
firefighter in 1956 with the permission of
his parents Bob and Martha Fitzgerald. He
was one of the first firefighters to earn a
paramedic certification. This year has
marked his 30th year as a paramedic and his
50th year with the Manhattan Fire
Department.
Jack's involvement in Manhattan extends
beyond the fire district. He currently is a
trustee for the Manhattan Township Board of
Trustees and he served as mayor of Manhattan
from 1967 to 1989. |
